California is one of the biggest states in the U.S and is named to as the Golden State, which grows from the gold rush of 1849. Some miners did anything but become broke, while those that provided the miners with materials grew very rich.

California is the leading industries include agriculture, manufacturing (transportation equipment, machinery, and electronic equipment), biotechnology, aerospace-defense, and tourism. Principal natural resources include timber, petroleum, cement, and natural gas.

No single industry dominates the state’s economy. Manufacturing provides twenty percent of the jobs, Silicon Valley is the world’s leader in computer related businesses and Los Angeles and San Diego dominate the aerospace industry. The most visible business is entertainment, with Hollywood being the entertainment capital of the world. California is the nation’s leading agricultural and vineyard state, providing a high percentage of the world’s wine and brandy.

Death Valley, in the southeast, is 282 ft below sea level, the lowest point in the nation. Mt. Whitney (14,491 ft) is the highest point in the contiguous 48 states. Lassen Peak is one of two active U.S. volcanoes outside of Alaska and Hawaii; its last eruptions were recorded in 1917.

Surf from the Pacific Ocean and snow from the Rockies are the bookends to virtually every recreational activity known to human kind. Year round resorts in Lake Tahoe and Big Bear draw hundreds of thousands of tourists and locals annually. Golfers can find world renown courses for their enjoyment as California is host to hundreds of public golf courses. Snow and water skiing abound and most months can both be done on the same day somewhere in the state. California is the leader in fishing licenses with ponds, rivers, streams, lakes and the ocean providing a great opportunity for all fisherman.

Los Angeles is the most populous town in California and is situated in the southern half of the state. It is an extraordinary and very diverse city; from Hollywood to East L.A. you can discover every possible lifestyle represented in this microcosm. Los Angeles is home to traffic jams, smog, and political power in the state.

The area of the bay of San Francisco is place to San Francisco's cities, San Jose, the third biggest California city and the nation’s tenth biggest city, and Oakland. San Francisco is most considered for its picturesque Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars and the former prison on Alcatraz Island

The Central Coast operates between L.A. and San Francisco with Santa Barbara like its most significant city. The Central Coast is attractive and scenic. North of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo (SLO) has retained its old main street, popular for Farmers' Market on Thursday night, and one of two polytechnic universities (Cal Poly) with its emphasis on Engineering and Agricultural disciplines.

San Diego is situated on the southern end of the state and provides good beaches and water based sports. It is home to the west coast submarine fleet for the US Navy. There are several things to visit in San Diego containing Sea World, Mission San Diego De Alcala, and the Wild Animal Park. The San Diego Zoo has some wonderful exhibits, even if there are large crowds, and if the pandas are out, the crowds in the rest of the zoo run to dip down. The tour buses are also nice to go around the zoo.

The California coastline has a Mediterranean climate and has attracted big populations and have favourable used political means, especially in the southern region (Los Angeles in special) to redirect water resources from both northern regions and other states to service thirsty populations. Central California is the region of the nation.
